Research: Mise en Scene: Costume, Hair & Make-up - Mrs. Quinlan

Why is costume, hair and make-up important?

Costume, hair and make-up are part of the Mise En Scene, and are essential feature for the appearance of the character because the audience will determinate age, social status, personality, nationality, dislikes and likes before the character says a word. Costume is an important fact of acting, which shows the character interpretations, moves and speaks with the, continually, attentions of the spectator. Costume also helps to establish the relationship between characters to the viewers which means that the audience can reflect them self in stories being exaggerated in films. Moreover, costume, hair and make-up bring effective meaning in movies if well manipulated and developed, it then means that it transform all subjects and objects into new signs. For example, in a crime-thriller the protagonist will usually wear a police outfit, whereas is a psychological thriller the protagonist will wear a suit to represents his intelligence. This is because it follow the trend of the sub-genres and allow the audience to distinguish what character is the protagonist or antagonist.

Spectre: The character in this frame is the protagonist, which can be identified by his costume, hair and make-up. The protagonist wears a white smoking dress with black trouser. The white connotes to his good intention and purity, also to his moral persona which makes the audience have faith onto his action. His black trouser connotes to his professional and skilful personality as he have to protect the civilians by using guns and other gunfire. The protagonist does not wears any make-up, but his hair are neatly laid down which creates a sense of superiority and good looking to his character, it also shows that he take care of himself, therefore the audience are more likely to put their trust onto him. The suit that the protagonist is wearing is conventional to a thriller genre because it shows the spectators that they are intelligent and smart.

Fast & Furious: This character is an anti-hero which is presented by his costume. The black vest has connotations of evil intentions, also the black colour is a symbol of authority and power, making the character seen dominant and powerful. Moreover, we can see that the character wears a necklace with a cross, showing that he have faith onto God yet he still makes poor decision on breaking the law. This allows the viewers infer that although he is an anti hero he will still fight for justice yet causing problems in society. The vest that he is wearing expose his muscles, which makes the audience have faith onto him because they can assume that he is strong and capable to fight the villain strategically. The character has no make-up and hair, which is conventional to a thriller action as it shows his masculine nature.

The silence of the lambs: The character portrayed in this still frame is an antagonist. This can be assumed by his costume hair and make-up. The character wears a dull brown mask with bars which can be associated to his psychopath persona, which makes the audience infer that he is trapped. He also wears a bright orange clothes that suggest that he is in prison because his evil action that he accomplished. Furthermore, we can see that the character does not wear any make-up, but by his hair the spectators can assume that he does not take care of himself, which is conventional to thriller genre as the antagonist is unattractive and looks evil.

Se7en: The character from this shot is the female victim, which can be assumed by her costume, hair and make-up. The female character is wearing a white shirt which allows the audience assume that she is comfortable ans secure. The white colour connotes to purity and innocence which can be associated to the vulnerable and fragile personality of the female character.  Furthermore, we can see that the female victim has blonde hair which connotes to holiness and a easy target for the antagonist to kill. Lastly, we can see that the female character wears a little make-up to to show that she take care of herself, which makes the audience have less hope for her to survive when the antagonist will attack her. This is conventional to a thriller genre as the victim is shown vulnerable and fragile.

Hanna analysis:

From this action - thriller scene, we can see different characters representation. Firstly, we can see a teenage girl sitting next to another woman, and from her hair colour, which is blonde, and the pale face the audience can witness that she is pure and innocent. Also, from her pale face we can suggests that she is holy as she show her true female nature. However, we can see the she is wearing a prisoner outfit which foreshadow her as a criminal which makes the viewers, immediately, infer that she already broke the laws or, possibly, that someone kidnapped and trapped her. This will make her seen as a anti-hero as she will kill innocent people and get revenge.

As the scene proceed, we can see that another female character is introduced and we can assume that she is the antagonist. This is because of her red colour hair that connotes to danger and blood. Moreover, we can see that she wars make-up. She wears a red lipstick and black eye shadows on her eyes, which makes the spectators infer that she is harmful, as black connotes to misery and red connotes to blood.  Also from her costume the viewer can assume that she is professional and that she comes from the higher class. This makes the audience witness that she evil and clever ,even, from her wicked smile, also because we can see another woman that looks just like her interpreting what the antagonist is saying. This makes the audience suppose that the the teenage girl will kill her as she might find out who really she is.

Lastly, as the scene develop, we can see that others minor character are bring into the scene. They wear sophisticated clothes such as uniform, flack jackets and a hat, which gives them authority and they formal role. The use of uniform suggest that they are in group which gives them more power, also the use of the bulletproof jacket gives them more security and strengths, which makes the audience reflect that they are powerful and professional. This is conventional to an action-thriller because characters such as police are shown in the movie.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, after this research which was beneficial to my knowledge I will be more selective about the costume and make-up of my character that I will use for my opening thriller. The protagonist will be a male character which will be attractive and strong, whereas the antagonist would be represented ugly and mentally disturbed which is conventional to a thriller opening. The protagonist will wear white colour shirt to represents his good persona and intentions, whereas The antagonist will wear dark colour clothes to demonstrates his evil and dangerous personality. Furthermore, I will probably have a third character which will be my female victim. The victim will also wear bright colour clothes to show her vulnerability, she will also wear a little of make up to shows that she take care of herself, therefore the audience will feel more sympathy for her, which is conventional to a thriller genre.

Research: Mise en Scene: Setting & Iconography - Mrs. Quinlan

Why is setting important?

The setting is the place in which something happens in the scene, which could be located in a city, that cause meaning to the audience as they will be able to understand what's going on in the scene. For example, the setting could be a warehouse which is located in a room, which makes the audience reflects that the setting is the bigger picture and the location is the place where actions happens. Obviously, setting vary between sub-genres. In an Action-thriller the location would be the city and the setting would be the police station. Whereas in a Psychological-thriller the location would be an Island and the setting would be a mental asylum.

SETTING EXAMPLE:

Hospital
Alleyway
Hunted House

Setting are dependent on sub-genres as a setting cannot be chosen if there is no sub-genre, as it would not make sense and the audience would no be able to understand why the location has been chosen. A setting must be chosen after sub-genre has been decided in order to make the film effective so the audience will feel thrilled and enthusiast by the movie.

The Conjuring analysis:

From the following scene we can discover that the setting is in a forest and the actual scene is located in their haunted house. The house is a symbol of security and safety but is always subverted, creating a feeling of frightfulness as the only place that we think is safe is causing trouble to the innocent characters. The use of the house in the bigger forest is to make the audience detect that the place is isolated which can suggest that the house is haunted or that unnatural actions take place. As the house is isolated there will be no help for the characters in distress, which will makes the audience feel frustrated as something terrible might happen.

Why is iconography Important?

Iconography is the objects that create meaning to the scene which allows the audience make assumptions about the character or the location. Examples of iconography used in thriller films include: guns, knives, phone, money, drugs and blood. The denotation of these objects connote danger and thrill for the audience as they symbolise death.

ICONOGRAPHY EXAMPLE:

Blood
Knife

Gun

Money
Iconography is dependent on a sub-genre as the objects used in a film cannot be selected unless the sub-genre is decided as different sub-genre require different iconography. For example, a crime-thriller will use the iconography of gun, blood and money as the theme of conspiracy and death would be demonstrated in the movie.

Face Off analysis:

From this scene it's noticeable that one important iconography is the metallic shoes that the character is wearing which suggest that he is trapped and segregated. Also another main iconography is the newspaper which makes the character seen intelligent and educated, also he use the newspaper to cover his face which could refer that he is trying to cover his identity which build a sense of mysteriousness on him. Lastly, even the use of the iconography of the ring play an important role. This indicates that the antagonist is leaving a better and rich life of the protagonist as they changed their faces, which makes the audience feel sympathy for the protagonist as he is imprisoned in this warehouse.

Conclusion:
This research was useful to my understanding as I now know how to use iconography and setting professionally. For my opening thriller I will be using different iconography such as blood, knife, and money which will be located, probably, in a warehouse to create a sense of mysteriousness and suspense to the audience. However the plot might have some changes.

Research: Mise en Scene: Body language & Facial expression - Mrs. Quinlan

Why is Body language and Facial expression important?

Body language and Facial expressions are part of the Mise En Scene. They are really important aspects because they shows the spectators the true nature of the character. Body language is the way in which bodies communicate which is important because it shows the character's representation, so the audience will understand how the character is demonstrated such as vulnerable, determinant or submitted. Moreover, Facial expressions are important because it tell us a lot about character, situations and subtext. It's important to recognize them as they reveal about emotions and moods which also create meaning in the scene. A Facial expression conveys an emotion that instruct us about the character and they way they react to the situation. it may also tell us something about the situation when something happens to the character which convey his true feelings or, perhaps, it may reveal a subtext or deeper meaning that contradicts what they say or do in the scene.

In Thriller movie there always be character such as protagonist, antagonist and female in distress. The protagonist is always represented as clever, agile, attractive and superior to fight the villeins and rescue the female victim. The antagonist is usually demonstrated as a psychopath that will harm innocent people and cause trouble into the society. Lastly, the female victim will be portrayed as vulnerable and pure, and typically falling in love with the protagonist. Similarly, Facial expression in thriller movie plays a big role in the scene, as the audience will emphasizes the emotions and feelings of the type  of characters such as protagonist, antagonist, damsel in distress and anti-hero. The protagonist is typically seen serious and focus on what he is doing such research and investigation, whereas the antagonist is known for making plan to cause trouble into society and harm civilians.

These are some example of facial expression and body language of different characters representation:

                                                                                                       (THE TRANSPORTER MOVIE)

                                                                                                        PROTAGONIST:

In these two images we can see the facial expression and body language of the protagonist. His facial expression is determinate and focused, but not too rough as he need to be approachable and kind so the audience can sympathize him. The protagonist is good looking and has a welcoming facial expression, thus the audience will now that he has good intentions. In addition, from his facial expression we can infer that he is ready for action, which can be justified by his steady and serious look. When it comes to the body language, the audience can immediately assume that the protagonist is ready to fight villains. His confident posture with his shoulders firms allows the viewer have faith on him to defeat the antagonist and win thee battle, which is conventional for a thriller movie.

(THE PURGE MOVIE)ANTAGONIST:
In these two images the body language and facial expression of the antagonist are presented. His wicked smile displays his mocking nature, making the audience feel insecure as the antagonist looks mysterious and have something to hide. His self-assured facial expression and disgusting grin represents his corrupted persona and arrogance, which is conventional; to a thriller movie as the antagonist is loathed. In the other hand, the antagonist might be smiling because he has found something that will benefit himself and cause problems in society, or perhaps he is trying to persuade someone to do something. Furthermore, from his body language we can infer that he is dominant and powerful as he looks that he is screaming and threatening someone, making the audience feel intimidate as he is holding a gun. This is conventional to a thriller movie because it demonstrate that the antagonist is independent and ready to do anything to kill anyone who will interrupt him.

(SCREAM MOVIE)
VICTIM:

In these still frame it;s noticeable that the body language and facial expressions of the female victim are shown. From her facial expression the audience can assume that she is in distress and terrified as she looks like she is going to cry, which makes the audience feel pity for her. Also from her facial expression of her closed eyes and open mouth, we can deduce that she does not want to face the situation she is in, so she screams in need of a saviour. This build a sense of frustration to the viewers as they are unable to help her. Additionally, from her body language, we can see that she is slouched, this is because she is looking for comfort as she is vulnerable and fragile. She looks like that she is hiding from the antagonist as she is exposed and helpless which makes the audience feel sorry for her. This is conventional for a thriller movie because it builds a sense of anxiety and pity for the female victim.

THE BOURNE IDENTITY ANALYSIS:

From this scene it's noticeable that the protagonist's body language and facial expression are determinate. He shows to be really skilful and athletic to fight back the antagonist which makes the audience feel safe as the protagonist will win the battle. Also his facial expression are serious and motivated, which is conventional for a thriller movie so the audience will have faith onto him. However, we can see that even the antagonist is really agile, trying to harm the protagonist using a knife, as iconography, yet he can't stab the protagonist as he try, whereas the protagonist use a pen which is less harmful iconography but still manage to injure the antagonist without killing him. The facial expression of the antagonist look furious and desperate as he is unable to win the battle and fight back the protagonist, which is conventional to a thriller movie as the antagonist is weaker. This makes the audience reflect that as the protagonist has a big role to show the good deeds, he will not kill the antagonist and go against the law. Furthermore, we can see that a female character is introduced and from her facial expression we can see that she is confused and panicked, because the antagonist had picture and personal detailed of her, which cause her to question and demanding how the villain had these personal detail. Also her body language is fragile and vulnerable, this is why the protagonist is there to protect her, which makes the audience feel secure that she won't be hurt or injured. This is conventional to an action-thriller movie as the theme of violence is presented.

Conclusion:

From this beneficial research, I will be more responsible that the characters for my opening thriller will be suitable for my plot, to make the sequence seen creative and professional,  also to make the audience see that the character's body language and facial expression are believable and conventional. My protagonist's body language will be determinate and skilful so the audience will have faith onto him, he will also be muscular and tall. His facial expression will be happy and focused.Whereas my antagonist, will be still muscular and determinate, but his facial expression will be wicked and angry. These are some conventions that I will portrays in my opening thriller.

Research: Mise en Scene: Lighting & Colour - Mrs. Quinlan

Why is lighting and colour important?

Lighting and colour are part of the Mise En Scene. Lighting is important because it helps to convey mood and atmosphere through the scene. It can be used to guide the audience's attention to a particular object, person or emotion which is really significant in the scene as it add meaning and different audience response. Also it allows the spectators interpret which character is playing which role such as protagonist, antagonist or victim. Similarly, colour is important because it gives meaning to the character or objects. This makes the audience recognize if the character is the protagonist or the antagonist as it can give different interpretation on the scene. Lighting is categorised into  two class which are:

Angle - the position of the light
Type - the way the light is used (dark, light)

LIGHTING:

Angle:

Top lighting comes from the top which glamorized the character as the light looks like that is coming from heaven, therefore make her seen the good character. Also is used to highlights the features of the character to make her look holy and attractive, which makes the audience feel in favor towards the character because they seem to be more trustworthy. Under lighting comes from above making the character seen evil and dangerous as it creates shadows in the face. Also it highlights the figure making the character facial expression look scary and creepy as the light comes from above which have a distorting effect. Moreover, under lighting disfigures the character's facial which makes the audience question who they are. In this frame, the female antagonist is portrayed with under lighting making her looking unattractive, which makes the viewers distance theme self as they connote the darkness to something negative. This is conventional for a thriller movie because the antagonist will always seen harmful and negative.

Back lighting comes from the back, to make the scene look mysterious and create the character's silhouette appear to make the audience feel scared as the lights comes from behind. Also the back lighting allows the audience feel vulnerable and exposed as they cannot identify the character's identity, therefore making them feel insecure. The back lighting creates a fearful response from the audience as they are oblivious of the surrounding. This is conventional to a thriller movie because it creates a mysterious atmosphere and make the audience feel uncomfortable.

Type:

High key lighting on characters
Low key lighting on characters

High key lighting on setting
Low key lighting on setting

High key lighting is used to make the character seen innocent, brave, or courageous. This highlights his good intention and positive attitude, also the setting will be more comfortable to the audience as they won't expect something disturbing to happens as the high key lighting create a mood of positiveness. This make the audience feel safe and secure as the high key lighting connotes to kindness and warmth.

Low key lighting is used to make the character seen vicious and dangerous, also it make the scene look unsettling as something undesirable might happen. This is mainly used to make the audience depict a sense of danger and make them feel frightened and uncomfortable.

COLOURS:

We need to talk about Kevin

Red -  The red colour can imply into two different meaning such good or evil. Essentially red can connote to love and passion towards someone which makes the audience feel safe and comfortable. However, sometimes the red colour connote to danger, death or blood. For example, in the still frame the audience are unsure if the colour red can connote to blood or tomatoes, as it shows a crowd of people that look like they are fighting brutally, or perhaps they are in hell, which make the audience feel scared and pity for those characters. This is a conventional colour for a thriller genre as in convey feeling such as fear, danger and death.

Paranormal Activity 4

Gloomy green
- The green colour usually connote to hope and nature which allow the audience to feel secure and serene. However in this thriller-horror image the gloomy green colour suggest supernatural and danger which makes the audience have a fearful response. This is because in this still frame we can see the image of a kid, which make the audience feel worried for his safety, as the green colour connote to toxic and harm. This is a conventional colour for a thriller genre as it convey emotions such as fear and terror.

Skayfall

Yellow/Orange - The yellow-orange colour usually connote to fire and destruction. For example in the image above we can see that a forest is ignite with fire, which makes the audience deduce that is dangerous and harmful. Also it makes the character look dominant and powerful, as he is near the fire and concern of the consequences that will fallow if  an explosion will happen. This is a conventional colour for an action-thriller movie as the theme of death and the action of explosion is conventional for this type of genre.

The Purge

Navy Blue - The navy blue colour suggest mystery and darkness, this is because it's an intense colour. In this frame above, we can assume that something negative will happen, making the viewer feel exposed as they do not know what to expect. Moreover, this is typical colour used in thriller movie, to convey meritoriousness and danger, making the viewer feel vulnerable and confuse.

THE MOON IN THE GUTTER SCENE ANALYSIS:

The scene begins with an establishing shot of the red cloudy sky and an eerie soundtrack. This immediately makes the audience have a fearful response as the red colour connotes to danger and blood, making the viewer assume that something negative will happen. Moreover, the shot dissolve, introducing the new section of the scene. Here we can see a panning shot used to show the street. The location in portrayed with low key lighting and a blue-navy atmosphere, which connotes mysteriousness as the audience does not yet know what will happen next. As the scene proceed, a low angle in establish showing a woman walking on the street. The character is dressed in white, connoting her innocence and fragile persona, also she is presented with top key lighting suggesting that she is exposed, and an easy target for the antagonist to kill. This allow the audience have a clear understanding that this character is the female victim. As she keeps walking, the top key lighting change colour, from white to red, which makes the audience presume that she will be in danger making the viewer feel worried for her safety. Furthermore, another character is introduced. His identity is not fully identified which makes the audience feel curious as they want to know who is the character. However, from his black trouser and brown shoes the audience can immediately infer that he is the antagonist, this is because the colour black connotes to danger and death, which makes the spectators feel scared. Additionally, as the scene develops, we can see that the female victim is kidnapped from the unknown character which makes the audience feel frustrated for the female victim's life. As she begins to run we can see that the alley is portrayed with low key lighting, making the audience deduce that she will be in serious trouble. The scene is dissolved, introducing the bright moon shining in the dark sky, which foreshadows the female's life. In addition, a panning shot is utilize to show the victim's end. Here the clothes of the female character are ripped and covered with spot of blood in her white dress. This alludes that the victim is been brutally raped and killed, which builds a sense of disgusts toward the antagonist. Also from the lake of blood dripping out of the body of the female victim, we can see that it's reflecting the moon. This makes the audience emphasise the brutal murder of female's life. The scene ends with the red cloudy sky, which connote to the victim's blood. This makes the audience feel pity for her as she looked innocent and vulnerable. Also a tilt shot is applied, discovering the antagonist's identity. His clothes are black, which makes the audience aware of his evil and psychopath persona which is conventional to a thriller opening as the theme of death and rape is presented.

Conclusion:

In resolution I am more capable to make a decent opening thriller after this research because I understand more the use of colour and lighting. For my opening I intentionally want to use dark and dull colour, and as angle back and under lighting to make the scene look scary and conventional to a thriller opening. The colour of clothes that my character will wear will be white and light blue to represents his good intentions and masculinity. Whereas, my antagonist will only wear black clothing to demonstrate his evil persona and attitude, which is also conventional for a thriller genre.

Research: What is a Thriller? - Miss Begum

What is a genre? Why is it important?

A genre is a style or type of film which involves themes, plot and location. Different genres contains different story lines. A genre is important because it allows the audience to define the movie and story line of the film, so they can decide if is appropriate to their age or type of favorite movie they like to watch.

What is a ‘Thriller’?

A Thriller is a genre of films that contain suspense and tension on the viewer. The thriller genre also play with the psychological side of the person which makes this genre unique and different of the others genres of movie. The audience can be affected from a psychological reaction or/and a physiological reaction.  The story line of a thriller is cleverly made which has a plot twist which makes the audience feel excited and thrilled.

Example of thriller films:

                                     BLACK SWAN:

Nina is a passionate ballerina, which she will be the first choice  of the company's director to replace his prima ballerina of the opening production of "Swan Lake". She will be in competition with the new artist Lily, however they will develop a twisted friendship which Nina's dark side begins to emerge.

SAW:

A serial killer punishing his victim for not appreciating their life as they waste their lifespan by playing with addictions and other beings. A detective and his team must apprehend the unconventional way of the murder killing his victim.

THE DARK KNIGHT:

Batman in his usual routine of saving the society from villains and their trouble. But this time he will face the psychopath mind of the insane Joker. The main villain will test Batman by his psychopath game and play with the Mafia's members.

SE7VEN:

A psychopathic murderer killing his victim according to the seven deadly sins. Both detective discover a number of elaborate and grizzly murders which will lead them to the killer.

Sub-Genre:

A sub-genre is a subdivision of smaller section of a genre. All main genre are classified into smaller groups which makes it easier to people to choose the different options of films available, which gives the spectators a rough ideas of the possible narrative and themes the movie is about. It also combine two genres which enhances the film by having a wider range of themes which will increase the level of excitement and it will intrigue the audience because of the genre combination.  The sub-genre that Thriller use are:

                                       ACTION THRILLER:

The action-thriller is mostly based on action and scenes like chases and escape. Here we can find the theme of revenge, death and mystery to make the audience fell excited and satisfied. The film ‘The Expendables’ is a good example because it’s based on action and chases which is appropriate for the audience who like this type of sub-genre.

                                   CRIME THRILLER:

The crime-thriller is based in action and crime that usually must be resolved. Here the theme of death and mystery makes the audience excited and involved as they try to resolve the mystery so therefore they keep watching because they want more. An example of this sub-genre is ‘The Bourne Identity’ which is about a man who doesn’t remember his past anymore which also involves action and crime.

                                      PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER:

The psychological-thriller is usually based around the mental mind of the protagonist or antagonist.  Here the themes that are used are death, and more important, mystery which makes the audience feel thrilled and anxious. A good example of movie is ‘Shutter Island’, here we can see that the protagonist need to solve a mystery which makes the audience feel involved.

                                    HORROR THRILLER:

The horror-thriller is mostly based in physiological reaction to scare the audience, but it also implies mystery on the story line. Here the theme of mystery is shown on how the paranormal or ghost has started. This makes the audience feel terrified. A good example is ‘Sinister’, here the plot is very intelligent as the protagonist find need to resolve a mystery and watch video about the paranormal ghost who killed children.

Codes and Conventions:

Every genre use codes and convention to make the movie have a clever story line and plot twist. The thriller genre use different codes and conventions to set up the scene and build tension to the audience. These are some of them:

Narrative:
The thriller genre usually have a clear structure of the movie. It start with an equilibrium, like in the movie ‘Panic Room’. The equilibrium start with a family who wants to start a new life in a new house. The disequilibrium start with a criminal who break in the house to try find a fortune. The new equilibrium starts when the father rescue the family and be a happy family again.

Themes:
The typical themes of thriller are: revenge, escape, mystery, kidnap, crime, death, rape, conspiracy and action. These themes makes the thriller genre unique and interesting as many of these are serious situation which people can relate on. For my opening thriller I plan to use the themes of mystery, death and action to make the spectators feels engage and excited.

Setting:
Thriller movie are usually set in isolated location such as abandoned house or hospital, graveyard, forest etc. this makes the viewers feel anxious and nervous because these are location that are easy to rely on so the audience will feel more scared and worried. The location that I look forward to use is a forest or a isolated warehouse as it conventional to the thriller genre and build tension and adrenaline to the audience.

Characters:
In thriller movie is more conventional to see a male protagonist and antagonist. The protagonist usually take the role of a secret agent, police detective or someone who can save the day. Whereas the antagonist usually take the role of a psychopath who will kill people in terrifying and intelligent way. My thriller opening will be based on a antagonist killing his victim strategically leaving the audience in doubt.

Audience response:

The audience responses will be different as people have different taste. For example the young generation will might be less reactive and scared, this is because today’s technology it’s so advanced that teenagers doesn’t need to use their imagination to fill in the gaps of the movie, whereas the old generation, cause of the lack of technology , visualize and picture the missing gaps of the movie. Therefore the old generation are more psychological effected because they are more likely to be relate into controversial situations. They might react psychologically with their minds or physiologically react by shivering, jumping or goose bumps.

Why is thriller a popular genre?

Thriller is a very popular genre because of the intelligent story line which makes the audience see what they don’t expect. Thriller play on all of our minds and make our imagination wonder and intrigue which can makes us react in a psychological and physiological way which is often involuntary. Moreover, thriller genres gained popularity because the horror genre is dying away.

Conclusion:

In conclusion this research was beneficial to my understanding because I understand more the convention and narrative of a thriller genre. Also it help me to make decisions for my opening thriller which could be change later on. I’ve decide that my thriller sub- genre would be crime because it’s concentrated more in psychological but also in action and the theme of mystery and death which has a wide audience and makes them feel thrilled.
